SPEAKER / AUTHOR Daniel L. Dreisbach, D.Phil., J.D.

Mr. Dreisbach is a Professor in the Department of Law, Justice, and Society at American University in Washington, D.C.  He received a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Oxford University, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar, and Juris Doctor degree from University of Virginia.  He has authored or edited seven books, including Thomas Jefferson and the Wall of Separation between Church and State – cited as one of Marvin Olasky’s “Top 100 Treadmill Books,”; The Founders on God and Government; The Sacred Rights of Conscience: Selected Readings on Religious Liberty and Church-State Relations in the American Founding (2009); and The Forgotten Founders on Religion and Public Life (named a top-20 book for 2009 by World Magazine).  He has published more than 60 book chapters, reviews, and articles.  Professor Dreisbach was the 2008 recipient of American University’s highest faculty award, “Scholar / Teacher of the Year.”

Mark David Hall, Ph.D.

Dr. Hall, Professor Dreisbach’s frequent collaborator, is a Herbert Hoover Distinguished Professor of Political Science at George Fox University.  He received a BA in political science from Wheaton College and a Ph.D. in Government from the University of Virginia.  He has written or edited eight books and numerous articles and book reviews on religious and church-state relations in America.
