Class Descriptions
SESSION 1- Beginning Volleyball (3rd - 6th grade)

 

We will cover age-appropriate skill development for beginners including ball control, passing, serving, and rotation.

SESSION 1- Patterns in Chinese Characters (3rd-8th Grade)

In this class, students will learn to identify common simple radicals embedded in Traditional Chinese Characters and see how the meanings of these radicals inform the meanings of the more complex characters. Students will also practice writing some of their characters in formal Chinese calligraphy.

SESSION 2- Board Games (3rd - 6th grade)

Come play various board games to encourage healthy competition, foster creative thinking, and cultivate solid relationships with peers.

SESSION 2- Cooking (4th grade and up)

This class will teach the basics of cooking to make confident capable home cooks.

SESSION 2- The Art of Speaking in Chinese (3rd-8th Grade)

In this class students will learn basic vocabulary (family titles, colors etc..), a few songs, some games and a few simple poems, all as they practice accurate pronunciation and tone.

SESSION TBD- Blast off with rockets! (5th grade and up)

During the week the class will learn about propulsion, lift, air pressure, chemical reactions and more.  Students will create and launch a water bottle rocket using water and air pressure.  The class will also build rockets and launch them with alka-seltzer and water as well as explore ideas with straw and balloon rockets.

SESSION TBD- Come play Townball (3rd-7th Grade)
Townball is a bat-and-ball game based upon the version of baseball played in Massachusetts before the Civil War.  Bring a baseball glove if you have one.

SESSION TBD- Intro to Coding with Micro:Bits (Grades TBD)
Tell a Story, play rock/paper/scissors, and create a petting zoo as we practice writing programs for micro:bit mini-computers (https://microbit.org/).  Learn how to apply logic and perform experiments to create projects which will amaze your family and friends!

SESSION TBD- Intro to Pinball (5th grade and up)

This class will bring in 3 to 4 pinball machines, look inside the machines and explain how they work and what the goals are in playing.  Later in the week, groups will compete against each other for high score across all the pinball machines.

SESSION TBD- Messy Art (1st-3rd Grade)

Messy Art Lab is a process-oriented art experience. We'll focus on the exploration of materials, colors, textures, art recipes and all the squishy-gooey-messy stuff kids love to get their hands on. Projects include tie-dye, splatter painting, shaving cream print making, and more!  Please make sure students are sent to class in clothes and shoes that are okay to get messy.
